Cori Cable Kidder and Alaina Beauloye, the two actresses at the heart of Always...Patsy Cline at Hale Centre Theatre, deliver extraordinary performances that make the production both joyful and deeply moving. Even with the knowledge that Patsy Cline's life was cut tragically short at the age of 30, this musical radiates warmth and humor. Kidder's performance as Cline not only reminds us of the beloved signer's unmatched musical legacy but also gives us an in-depth look at the personal connection that made her so genuine.

The show tells the true story of Cline's friendship with her devoted fan, Louise Seger. After meeting at a Texas honkytonk in 1961, the two struck up an unlikely but genuine bond that continued through letters, phone calls, and visits. Louise serves as the narrator of the story, guiding the audience through her memories, from the first time she heard the singer's voice on the radio to her tragic death in 1963, while Cline performs many of her greatest hits around Louise's memories of their encounters. The result is part concert and part heartfelt remembrance, giving audiences both the music and the story behind this close, personal relationship.

Originally created by Ted Swindley in 1988, Always... Patsy Cline has become a favorite across the country, thanks to its unique structure, emotional authenticity, and the nostalgia it brings due to Cline's impressive number of beloved songs. The show explores themes of friendship, fandom, and the way music can forge lasting human connections. It also highlights Cline's groundbreaking career at a time when female country artists were still fighting for recognition.

Cori Cable Kidder's portrayal of Cline is simply superb. Her rich, expressive singing voice is so authentic that if you close your eyes, you might believe you are hearing Cline herself. She delivers classics like "Crazy," "Walkin' After Midnight," and "I Fall to Pieces" with emotional depth and effortless control. Equally impressive is Alaina Beauloye as Louise, whose warm, humorous, and conversational performance anchors the show. She balances the comical moments and sincerity beautifully, making Louise feel genuine and relatable rather than merely a narrator. Both actresses have played these roles in past Hale productions and their performances have grown and deepened over the years.

Cambrian James' direction does an excellent job of bringing out both the humor and the heart woven throughout the piece. James' natural pacing allows the story and songs to unfold naturally, giving each moment time to resonate. Lincoln Wright's music direction and the excellent live band capture the nostalgic sound of Cline's era with vibrant arrangements. Molly Hill's costume designs deliver period perfect outfits for both Patsy and Louise, and James' wig designs are equally impressive.

Always... Patsy Cline at Hale Centre Theatre is a touching and uplifting theatrical experience. With outstanding performances, heartfelt storytelling, and unforgettable music, this production serves as a loving tribute and a celebration. It reminds us that while Patsy Cline may be gone, her voice and spirit continue to live on.

Always... Patsy Cline runs through April 7, 2026, at Hale Centre Theatre, 50 W. Page Avenue, Gilbert AZ. For tickets and information, please visit www.haletheatrearizona.com or call 480-497-1181.
